Step 1 – Consultation

Are you considering restoring your home or wooden structure? This important decision begins with a thorough inspection of the property. Whenever possible, we prefer to visit the site personally at no cost to you. If a site visit isn’t feasible, we kindly ask you to provide high-definition photographs that capture all aspects of the building.

During our assessment, we evaluate the wood species, age, and overall condition of the logs, looking for signs of weathering, UV damage, mold, mildew, or rot. After a comprehensive review, we’ll share our honest and professional opinion on the best, most cost-effective ways to protect your building. If you choose to move forward, we will provide a detailed quote for our services.

Step 2 – Quotation

In this step, we provide a detailed quote outlining all the services we will offer throughout the restoration process. This includes recommendations on options and the best approach. We cover exterior and interior site preparation, all necessary blasting materials and equipment, and man lift and scaffolding if needed.

We include cleaning the logs after blasting and any required preservative treatment. You'll receive advice on the best stain for your logs and the application of that stain, followed by site cleanup. Our quote comes with a warranty on the finish and a maintenance guide to help you prolong its life.

Step 3 -Site Preparation

We begin by relocating all plants, furniture, BBQs, and other items to a dust-free environment and covering them with polypropylene. If needed, we remove downspouts and take down all fixtures, lights, and any other items attached to the walls. Next, we carefully tape 6 mm heavy polypropylene to all glass, windows, frames, electrical outlets, junction boxes, aluminum flashing, cables, and gutters using non-residue, abrasive-resistant duct tape.

Finally, we ensure that any other surfaces are adequately protected from the blasting medium.

Step 4 – Remove Old Stain, UV Damage, and Weathering from Logs

The preparation phase is vital for any restoration project. Although it might be tempting to rush through this step, skimping on prep work can lead to disappointment down the line. Depending on the state of your logs and whether we’re working with an existing finish or starting fresh, there are various methods to consider for prepping a log home.

Options for addressing old stains, UV damage, and weathering include crushed glass blasting, chemical stripping followed by pressure washing, and sanding or hand grinding. Randy, our restoration specialist, will help you select the most suitable method for your project.

Step 5 – Apply Log Preservative

If needed, the logs can be treated with an eco-friendly insecticide and fungicide. This powder is mixed with water and applied using a fertilizer sprayer.

This treatment helps deter termites, carpenter ants, and wood-boring insects, while also slowing the onset of potential rot, mold, or mildew, both inside and outside the logs.

Step 6 – Staining Your Log Home

We will collaborate with you to select the right product from a range of proven, long-lasting eco-friendly stains, all of which include UV inhibitors. To ensure you’re happy with your choice, we typically create color samples directly on your logs.

Once we finalize the appropriate stain, we’ll carefully double-check all areas that were taped or covered with polypropylene to prevent overspray. We usually apply 2 to 3 coats of stain, as needed.

Step 7 – Thorough Site Clean-Up

Once all work is complete, we will meticulously clean up the site to ensure it looks as good as new. This includes reinstalling all downspouts, fixtures, lights, and other components, as well as returning furniture, shrubs, and other items to their original positions.

We’ll clean windows as needed, sweep and bag any glass dust we can find, blow away any remaining dust with a leaf blower, and tidy up any soil that was covered during the project. Your satisfaction is our priority, and we’ll leave your space spotless!
